The Faculty of Bioeconomy Development is part of the Agriculture Academy of Vytautas Magnus University and is a national leader in bioeconomy research and development in Lithuania. The Faculty of Bioeconomy Development brings together leading researchers working at the intersection of social sciences, sustainability, and bio-based innovation, with a strong focus on agriculture, rural and regional development, and evidence-based policymaking.
The Faculty of Bioeconomy Development offers unique study programmes and prepares highly qualified professionals capable of developing strategic solutions for bioeconomy-related business development, public policy, and entrepreneurship. Through close cooperation with bioeconomy business leaders, public authorities, and international research partners, the Faculty of Bioeconomy Development actively contributes to the transition from a fossil fuel–based economy to a sustainable, bio-based economy supporting long-term societal and economic growth.
The Faculty of Bioeconomy Development organised the International Scientific Conference “Sustainable Bioeconomy Development: Theory and Practice” (SBD) in 2020, providing an international platform for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to exchange knowledge, discuss emerging research, and share best practices in the field. The origins of the SBD conference lie in a national practical conference on sustainable development organised by the Faculty of Bioeconomy Development, which laid the foundation for today’s international SBD conference.
This initiative reflects the Faculty of Bioeconomy Development’s commitment to interdisciplinary dialogue, applied research, and the dissemination of research-based solutions at both national and international levels.
